We’re happy to present the next video in our series “Faith under Siege,” produced in collaboration with Aid to the Church in Need USA. In this interview, we are joined by Archbishop Bashar Matti Warda from the Chaldean Archdiocese of Erbil to discuss the current state of the Church and religious freedom in Iraq. After years of violence and conflict following the ISIS incursion into Northern Iraq, the number of Christians in the country dropped from 1.5 million in 2003 to fewer than 200,000, many of whom have lost everything. Despite this sorrowful past, there are rays of hope and tolerance in the country today due in part to the Catholic Church’s presence and mission.
